This stunning new Ravenala from northeastern Madagascar appears to be a previously unknown species. It possesses a substantial, towering, solitary trunk and exceptionally lengthy leaves adorned with strikingly vibrant red, rigidly erect leaf bases. The seeds are noticeably smaller compared to the typical R. madagascariensis. It thrives exclusively in undisturbed primary rainforest, setting it apart from R. madagascariensis and making it a rather scarce find. In the same area, the seeds of R. madagascariensis ripen in October, rather than March.
