This shrub or small tree, typically not exceeding 6 metres in height, can be found in woodlands and on rocky outcrops throughout tropical Africa. Like an expert in plant life, one can easily identify this particular species by observing its prominent roots that extend across the nearby rocks. Its trunk, adorned with white-yellowish bark, twists gracefully and supports a sparse but sturdy crown of branches. These branches are characterised by leaf scars and large heart-shaped leaves. Additionally, the tree produces eye-catching, edible figs in shades of yellow or red. Every part of the plant releases a harmless, milky sap. This particular plant, Ficus abutilifolia, is highly regarded for its ornamental qualities in the dry tropics. Additionally, it is often chosen as a suitable option for bonsai cultivation.
